Tampa Bay Buccaneers Make Multiple Important Coaching Hires
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers went to the collegiate ranks in order to find their new offensive coordinator, Liam Coen. Sticking with that trend, the team has reportedly now added two more coaches to their staff, both of whom will be making the jump from college to the pros.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Offseason Outlook: Running Back Position
The first hire was not a huge surprise, as Liam Coen poached one of his old coaches at Kentucky, hiring Brian Picucci as an assistant offensive line coach. Picucci and Coen go way back, as Picucci actually coached Coen when he played quarterback at UMass from 2005-2008. Picucci has some pro experience too, as he was an offensive assistant and assistant tight ends coach under Matt Patricia with the Detroit Lions for two seasons.
Bryan McLendon, who most recently served as the pass game coordinator and wide receivers coach for the Georgia Bulldogs, has been named the team's new wide receivers coach.
McLendon is just 40 years old but already has a very impressive coaching resume. He's spent the majority of his career at big time college programs, including Georgia and Oregon, where at various times, he was named the interim head coach for both teams. McLendon also spent three seasons at South Carolina.
The majority of McLendon's coaching opportunities have been as a pass game coordinator, a wide receivers coach, or both. He's also worked as running backs coach and assistant head coach at Georgia, as well as the offensive coordinator at South Carolina.
Having spent so much time in the SEC, McLendon has a lot of experience working with some big-time NFL talent.
The hiring of Brian Picucci and Bryan McLendon adds a new dynamic to the Buccaneers' new offensive coaching staff, which will be led by a fellow SEC coach, and current offensive coordinator, Liam Coen.
