Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield Feels 'Revitalized' After Stint With Los Angeles Rams

Baker Mayfield is looking forward to a fresh start after a short stint with the Los Angeles Rams.

Baker Mayfield, a former No. 1 overall pick, has had a unique career path so far in the NFL. After being the college football legend that helped snap the Cleveland Browns' playoff drought, he was replaced after one bad, injury-riddled season. Mayfield moved on to a deplorable situation with the Carolina Panthers, then eventually ended up signing with the Los Angeles Rams for the final weeks of the 2022 season.

Mayfield now finds himself with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who are in the first year of the post-Tom Brady era. With big shoes to fill, Mayfield is working with a clean slate.

When Mayfield moved onto the Rams, his reputation was damaged. The end of his Browns tenure and his Panthers tenure did not do him well. He was joining a reigning Super Bowl team that struggled early on, then their QB1 went down.

In his time with the Rams, Mayfield showed some light for his career. He essentially got a career reset during that time.

"I’m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. It was the first time I had fun playing football in a few years," Mayfield said when he spoke about his stint with the Rams during a media call. "It brought that feeling of having that success and really remembering what it was all about, Kind of hit the reset button for me."

Mayfield appeared in five games with the Rams last season, starting in four of them and passing for 850 yards on a 63.6 completion percentage.

"To be around a coach like Sean McVay and a bunch of other guys… to be around those guys and to be in that offense and now looking forward to being in Tampa because it’s a very similar system with our new offensive coordinator [David Canales]," Mayfield said.

Now, Mayfield gets a fresh start with the Buccaneers. He is dueling with Kyle Trask in a starting quarterback battle, and, assuming he wins, will have a chance to begin rebuilding his career.
