Bucs vs. Lions 4th Quarter Live Updates
It's rematch time.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are set to play the Detroit Lions for their second game of the season on Sunday in what could be a "measuring stick game" for the Bucs. It'll be an uphill battle, though, as Tampa Bay is playing without starting safety Antoine Winfield Jr. and starting right tackle Luke Goedeke. Should they win, though, they'll start the season 2-0, which is exactly the type of start head coach Todd Bowles wants.
PREGAME:
1st Quarter
- The Buccaneers get all the way down to the five-yard line after Lions CB Terrion Arnold commits pass interference on their opening drive, but the Buccaneers aren't able to punch it in when Aidan Hutchinson strip-sacks Baker Mayfield. Tampa Bay kicks a field goal, so it's 3-0 Bucs early on in this one.
- INTERCEPTION: Jared Goff immediately fires a pick to Zyon McCollum. Looks like Christian Izien committed PI, but it didn't get called — either way, Bucs take over at midfield.
- Bucs once again have Aidan Hutchinson problems, and they have to settle for another field goal after going three-and-out. It's good, so it's 6-0 Buccaneers here in the first quarter.
- Lions immediately get inside the 10 on the first play on a massive deep ball to Jameson Williams, but they can't get in the end zone, either. 6-3 Bucs after their kick is good, with both teams waiting for a touchdown.
- Bucs get a first down off a Baker Mayfield scramble but Aidan Hutchinson shuts the drive down after his THIRD sack of the first quarter. Bucs punting.
- At the end of the first quarter, the Lions are driving down the field after two consecutive catches by Amon-Ra St. Brown. Buccaneers really struggling with pass rush today.
2nd Quarter
- Lions move the ball down the field well after a slew of St. Brown catches, but the Buccaneers once again stop them in the red zone on third down. They kick, so it's now 6-6 all in Detroit.
- TOUCHDOWN, BUCS: Baker Mayfield finds Chris Godwin for a score after finding him for two other first downs. Kick is good, 13-6 Bucs.
- Lions go on a long, extended drive that includes a fake punt and another fourth down conversion, but the Bucs hold on again and Detroit punts. Bucs get the ball back with about five minutes left here.
- INTERCEPTION: Bucs throw an INT on their drive, and the Lions have the football again inside two minutes.
- Wow — Lions get all the way inside the 10, but have no timeouts and have 12 men on the field while trying to spike the ball. Half ends 13-6 with Bucs on top.
3rd Quarter
- Lions once again get down the field into the red zone and the Buccaneers once again stop them, so they kick. It's good, and Bucs still lead 13-9 here as they take their first drive of the third quarter.
- The Bucs go three-and-out after Aidan Hutchinson gets Baker Mayfield down for his fourth sack of the day.
- TOUCHDOWN, LIONS: Detroit makes it into the red zone again, but this time, Tampa Bay's luck has run out — David Montgomery brings it in for a one-yard score after the long drive. XP is good, so it's 16-13 Lions here, with Detroit in the lead for the first time today.
- TOUCHDOWN, BUCS: Tampa Bay gets inside the 10 after a Baker Mayfield scramble for 11 yards and then Mayfield runs it again on a designed run to get the score. XP is good and the Bucs are back on top 20-16 as the third quarter dies down.
4th Quarter
- Lions stall out at midfield when Tykee Smith makes a nice pass breakup on 3rd and 7. Lions punt and the Bucs will get the ball back inside their own five.
- Aidan Hutchinson gets his fifth (!!!) sack of the day when the Bucs drop back on third down and the Bucs will punt back to the Lions.
- INTERCEPTION: Jared Goff is pressured and slings a pick to Christian Izien, who returns it to the 27. Huge play for Tampa Bay.
- Bucs can't capitalize and punt it back to Detroit.
- The Lions get to the red zone yet again with the game on the line, and with 1:01 left on 4th and 8, only get five. Bucs get the ball back and a first down wins it...
- The Buccaneers throw an incompletion on third down and punt, so the Lions have 33 seconds and a timeout...
- The Lions try to make another play on 4th and 10 close to the red zone and fail, and the Bucs survive! They take the win 20-16.
