Tampa Bay Buccaneers Workout Two Cornerbacks Following Injuries at Position

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are looking at external outlets to bring in cornerback depth.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense has held strong through the start of the NFL season. Even in a 25-11 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football, the defense made big plays.

Unfortunately for the Buccaneers, injuries to Carlton Davis and Jamel Dean negatively impacted the depth at the cornerback position. In response to the injuries, the Buccaneers are looking at external outlets to bring in depth at the position.

Veteran cornerback William Jackson was one of the two at the position that the Buccaneers worked out. The 30-year-old has played six seasons in the NFL and he's started 64 of his 75 games played in that span. He also has five interceptions and 51 passes deflected over the course of his career.

Adding veteran depth to a solid defense will be beneficial both long-term and now. It'll mildly patch the injury issues up, and when the other two return, there will be comforting depth at the position as the team moves forward.

Another cornerback the Buccaneers worked out is Tae Hayes, who also recently worked out with the Houston Texans. The 26-year-old is younger but has still seen plenty of action across a multitude of teams.

Hayes has played 13 career games over the course of three seasons. While he doesn't have much on his resume, he could be a younger, higher-potential addition for the Buccaneers who recently took a shot on Christian Izien, the undrafted rookie safety who has been incredibly solid this season.

Again, one of these additions could be impactful now to fill in for some of these injuries, but they also would have the opportunity to fight to stay on the roster and continue providing depth at the position. The Buccaneers will have to continue playing incredibly solid defensively to continue giving Baker Mayfield and the offense chances to win football games.
