Buccaneers WR Gets First Touchdown of Year vs. Commanders
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have wanted to get wide receiver Chris Godwin involved in the offense. And now, during their first game of the year against the Washington Commanders, offensive coordinator Liam Coen made sure to give him his due.
The Buccaneers were driving against the Commanders with 16 points in hand, leading the game 16-7. Tampa Bay's passing offense had been moving well all game, to the point where Commanders cornerback Emmanuel Forbes couldn't hang with wideout Jalen McMillan — he committed a facemask which also served as DPI, which brought the Buccaneers inside the five.
With that in mind, there was one man that Baker Mayfield went to. Chris Godwin ran an out route toward the end zone, and Baker Mayfield managed to hit him right where he needed to for him to reach over the goal line and get the score.
Check out the touchdown play below:
Godwin had two total touchdowns in 2023, so he's already halfway there. And in a Liam Coen's offense, he'll be used more like Cooper Kupp was in Los Angeles. If that's the case, Godwin could expect some more touchdowns to come his way in 2024 with Tampa Bay's new scheme.
