It was to be expected, but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers now know which QB they're facing off against for their Week 1 matchup.

The Buccaneers are set to face off against the Washington Commanders in their Week 1 opener at home, and it was generally understood that they would be playing against rookie QB Jayden Daniels, who the team drafted out of LSU. That's been confirmed, now, per ESPN's Adam Schefter, so the Bucs can solely fix their attention on the new rookie quarterback.

Jayden Daniels did great work at LSU, winning the Heisman Trophy in 2023 for an impressive season that saw him throw for 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns and rush for 10 more on the year. The Commanders picked him with the No. 2 overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft, and although he was technically competing with quarterback Marcus Mariota.

Daniels has done well in preseason thus far with the Commanders, completing 12 of his 15 passes for 123 yards and grabbing a rushing touchdown against the New York Jets in his debut.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have played well against rookie quarterbacks in recent times. Although the team was a comical 1-11 against rookie quarterbacks from 2011-17, the team has improved in recent times, posting a 10-5 against them since Todd Bowles arrived in Tampa Bay with Bruce Arians in 2019.

The Buccaneers could possibly face yet another rookie QB this year, as they take on the Denver Broncos at home in Week 3 and they could possibly trot out rookie QB Bo Nix.
