Cardinals Add Star WR in Mock Trade
ARIZONA -- The Arizona Cardinals could make a big splash this offseason, and Bleacher Report has just the idea.
In a series of "shocking" trades that could shake up the 2024 NFL offseason, the Cardinals acquired the services of none other than Buffalo Bills WR Stefon Diggs in exchange for Houston's 2023 first-round pick and a 2025 third-round pick.
Alex Ballentine explained the logic with Diggs not exactly glowing with his current situation in Buffalo:
"Diggs' production recently could lead to more frustration even though it has come in Bills victories. He's been held under 50 yards in four of the last five games after hitting that benchmark in each of the team's first nine contests.
"If things have truly gone south, then the Cardinals would be an interesting team to come calling. They have two first-round picks, which would allow them to use theirs and deal the one they got from Houston last year.
"However, the Texans pick is trending toward the middle of the draft order, which would still allow the Bills to continue getting younger as they build around Allen in his second contract.
"Jonathan Gannon and the Cards should be looking to show signs of drastic improvement in 2024. Kyler Murray's absence was a built-in reason to struggle this year. Now Gannon has to prove he can thrive.
"The Cardinals have $56.1 million in 2024 cap space, per Spotrac. And potentially outfitting Murray with Stefon Diggs and Marvin Harrison Jr. immediately makes them one of the league's most intriguing offenses."
Arizona - just two years ago - spent a first-round pick on the services of Marquise Brown, which hasn't exactly panned out in their favor.
This would be a bit different.
Diggs is an established, certified, whatever vocab fits the billing receiver that Arizona desperately needs, and though the price is a bit steep, they'd still have their projected top five pick to grab another cornerstone player.
Kyler Murray appears to have proved himself to be the guy in the desert - at least for another season - and Cardinals brass would be wise to surround him with elite talent.
Diggs just turned 30-years-old in November. He is under contract through the 2027 season. Spotrac notes his 2024 salary is fully guaranteed.
Cardinals GM Monti Ossenfort has the potential to make a big move in the coming months - could Diggs be exactly what the doctor ordered?
