Cardinals Get Physical as Training Camp Nears End
Let's get physical, said the great Arizona Cardinals DL Leki Fotu.
In this story:
GLENDALE -- To quote the great Olivia Newton-John: Let's get physical.
On the second to last day of training camp for the Arizona Cardinals, the tempo and intensity indeed returned after a slow day on Monday.
Perhaps the competitiveness and physicality got into the heads of some, as there were two minor altercations - though we'll get into those in just a second.
With just one practice remaining (tomorrow), this was likely the last "physical" day the Cardinals will have. They'll have Thursday off for a walk-thru before Friday's preseason opener against the Denver Broncos.
Our notes, plus an update on one injured player:
Song of the day: Gold Digger by Kanye West
- A handful of scuffles happened today, both involving Leki Fotu. The first of which came with D.J. Humphries and Will Hernandez during early team portions. Later it was again Fotu against Hjalte Froholdt. Both times the causes were unknown but both sets of players had to be separated. Jonathan Gannon was seen encouraging his offensive linemen while fired up after the fact.
- Marlon Mack was helped off the field with an apparent leg injury early in practice. The running back was just signed last Friday and was spotted leaving in a walking boot with crutches after practice.
- Corey Clement was getting reps with the second team over Keaontay Ingram. Ingram was the second string running back on the team's first depth chart.
- Clayton Tune had a fairly good day throwing the football with the first and second team. He's likely to see a lot of time on Friday.
- Antonio Hamilton made a nice pick-six on David Blough today. Hamilton was listed as the starting cornerback opposite of Marco Wilson on the depth chart but hasn't logged many - if any - reps with the first team.
- Trey McBride was out there for individual and seven-on-seven drills but did not participate in team activities, something he hasn't done since the early days of camp.
- Michael Wilson continues to have a strong camp, as he's consistently found himself open and reliable.
- Isaiah Simmons - operating as the third safety in Arizona's single-high look - is the odd man out during heavy packages. Simmons was listed a second-stringer behind Budda Baker and Jalen Thompson on the depth chart.
- BJ Ojulari was limited and did not feature in the team portion of practice.
