Cardinals QB Kyler Murray is Looking to Prove a Point
ARIZONA -- In case you haven't heard, Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray is back in the building.
Better worded: he's on the practice field for the first time all season after being designated to return from the PUP list earlier today.
Murray tore his ACL late last season and is nearing 100% recovery. Though he hasn't physically been practicing, Murray has been at the facility rehabbing and a full participant in watching practices, meetings, etc. despite his inability to play.
Yet that window of time is closing for Murray's inactivity, as the former No. 1 pick will have 21 days of practice before he is required to be added to the active roster. He can be activated at any point during that window, though it's widely thought the Cardinals will allow him to practice for a few weeks before throwing him into the fire.
Joshua Dobbs, the starter for the previous six games and assumed leader of the offense until Murray returns, said it was great having him back out there today:
"It was great having K1 out there and seeing him running around and everything, slinging it, but it doesn’t change my approach at all. We’re still preparing for Seattle. I have my same approach each and every week," Dobbs told reporters.
"I’ve seen it. As we know and have talked about, I’ve seen every side of this quarterback thing. My approach never changes no matter what. ... It was great to have him back out there and again, we’re excited to prepare for our next opportunity.”
Best friend and Cardinals receiver Marquise Brown also spoke with reporters after practice:
"It was good, brought a smile to people's faces. I had a moment throwing the ball with him, so it was cool," said Brown, who added that Murray definitely missed being out there despite telling others it was just another normal day.
Brown said Murray had an added zip to the ball thanks to his "fresh arm" after not practicing for the first six weeks.
"I think they all know he's not coming back to be average, he's coming back to prove a point and I think they'll realize it very quickly" said Brown.
When asked what point Murray was looking to prove?
"That he's one of the best quarterbacks in the league and he's a winner - that's what he wants to show."
