Cardinals Blunt on Changing Outside Perception
GLENDALE -- Training camp is here for the Arizona Cardinals, and thus far, the team hasn't lost a game.
Expectations have been made crystal clear by new head coach Jonathan Gannon: They're here to win. As to how many games, your guess is as good as anybody else's.
The outside perspective seems to be few wins coming to the desert in 2023 - the Cardinals are heavily expected to contend for the No. 1 pick next season.
OT D.J. Humphries was asked about the expectations for the team just two practices into training camp, and he gave an honest answer:
"I don't know. I don't know. I'll tell you we've been in practice for two days so I can't give you any expectations for the team, just being honest with you. I'm not gonna sit here and say smoke, that's just not my style. You know what I mean?" said Humphries.
A bit later into his press conference after practice, he was asked how the Cardinals could change their outside perception:
"We don't give a f--- about outside perception of the team," he said.
"Honestly... that's never been my personality. D.J. Humphries is my dad, so I've never really gave a fuck about anything that anybody else had to say outside, that's never been a part of my DNA."
Humphries says Gannon has changed the culture in a massive way since arriving.
"It's been a culture shock. No graduate shift - it's shock, either get with it or get going," Humphries said.
"That's really the mentality. It makes it easy, especially when you got older guys like me, Budda [Baker] and all those guys that's buying into this system, when you have your leaders [inaudible] there's nobody that's behind you that's gonna buck the system when they see guys like me, guys like K1 [Kyler Murray] Budda, that are gonna fall into place and doing everything right, they're gonna do the same thing."
