Budda Baker, Cardinals Ready to Prove Everybody Wrong
When it comes to success, the Arizona Cardinals aren't expected to have much of it in 2023. The team is in the very beginning stages of a rebuild, and though the future indeed looks fruitful, this season isn't likely to yield any significant results.
That's life when you're forced to tear things down and build from the ground up, and the Cardinals are expected to be one of the worst teams in the league.
Budda Baker isn't having any of that talk:
"Me, I'm all in. This is early in the process. We're in training camp. For me, it's all kind of outside noise. I don't really pay attention to none of the projections and all those things because at the end of the day that's people's opinions, and they're not in the building," said Baker.
"They're not working with us each and every day. They don't know - it's just their opinion and I'm okay with that. I'm fine with that. You guys heard me say on the Cardinals' Instagram I've seen the disrespect and it's okay, because at the end of the day, what matters is who's in the building, the players around us and you know, the grind we put in each and every week. I'm not counting us out for anything."
Baker - who recently inked a re-worked deal to remain with Arizona - said it wasn't tough to commit to the rebuild:
"No, it wasn't tough at all. I believe in what they preach - when you believe in something that they preach, It's definitely easy. For me it was a great experience to get to know those guys. Now getting to coach them and understanding the playbook and even going against the offense is definitely refreshing to see that there's some great things," said Baker.
"There's multiple details that they've that said and came across that made me want to believe them. Just little details, they preach on the little details ... Making sure when you come in to meetings, you're wearing Cardinals gear, just little those little details [matter]. Fining someone if they're 30 seconds late to a meeting. Little things like that is where you develop a culture, you develop things that you like and for me, it's been great."
Baker isn't the only one who has spoke on beating outside perspectives, as D.J. Humphries was blunt on his feelings:
"We don't give a f--- about outside perception of the team," Humphries said.
"Honestly... that's never been my personality. D.J. Humphries is my dad, so I've never really gave a fuck about anything that anybody else had to say outside, that's never been a part of my DNA."
