Former NFL Exec Says Market for Cardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins is 'Soft'
The wait on WR DeAndre Hopkins' future continues with the Arizona Cardinals. After a largely inactive week that featured little movement from the organization, the team may very well be deep into negotiations to move on from Hopkins.
Much of the discussion surrounding Hopkins has been what it would cost to get his services. The All-Pro receiver will turn 31-years-old this year and has had issues staying healthy (along with his suspension in 2022) but has showed just how dominant he could be when on the field.
Star cornerback Jalen Ramsey was just dealt to the Miami Dolphins for a third-round pick and TE Hunter Long. Receiver Brandin Cooks was recently acquired by the Dallas Cowboys for a fifth and sixth-round pick.
The Cardinals are reportedly in search for a second-round pick and something else of value according to Albert Breer.
Will Arizona get a package similar to their demands?
Former NFL executive and current host of the "GM Shuffle" podcast Michael Lombardi described Hopkins' market as "soft":
“I think his market is really soft. I don’t think anybody wants to get into the Hopkins business, and then have to redo his contract,” said Lombardi (h/t WEEI).
“From what I’m told, it’s soft. There’s not a lot of action out there on him. He’s a good player, he’s always covered, but he always comes up with the football. But there’s other things that go into this, that I’m not at liberty to discuss that’s probably holding it all back.”
The Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots reportedly showed interest in Hopkins, though it remains to be seen where he actually ends up.
Hopkins will arrive to a new team with $19.45 million due in cash and has reportedly been open to restructuring his deal with a new team.
