Highlights From Cardinals First Day of Pads
The Arizona Cardinals have just wrapped up their first padded practice of training camp - and as expected - the energy/tempo was indeed dialed up.
Though we didn't see our first official scuffle with pads on, we did see some jawing between teammates when Michael Wilson reeled in a catch over Christian Matthew during one-on-ones. Wilson said something Matthew didn't like and the two were in each other's face, though no punches were thrown.
Matthew got his revenge during red zone work when he deflected a ball on Wilson, forcing an incompletion and causing a plethora of defensive players to run and cheer in support.
The likes of Myjai Sanders (still off to the side with a cast on his right hand), Marquise Brown and Trey McBride still did not practice during one-on-one or team activities. We spoke with head coach Jonathan Gannon ahead of practice and he said all the aforementioned players "have a plan" and there's nothing significant.
Rondale Moore was one of the standouts from practice after catching two touchdown passes in team periods. If healthy, his speed appears to be a real problem for defenses.
ILB Josh Woods - who is competing for playing time in Arizona's 3-4 scheme - also came down with a nice interception during team activities.
Clayton Tune got some run with the first team offense both during install and towards the end of practice. Jeff Driskel also got some work in with the third string over David Blough.
Overall, QB play hasn't been great here in Arizona.
Budda Baker appeared to have suffered some discomfort in his right knee during individual drills. After some stretching he was able to push through and finish practice.
