Cardinals Insider Expects Kyler Murray to Return Very Soon

The Arizona Cardinals could see the return of quarterback Kyler Murray within the next week or two.
In this story:

ARIZONA -- Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray could potentially emerge from the PUP list soon, according to Arizona Sports' John Gambadoro.

"Barring a setback, I would expect that Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray will come off the PUP list either this week or next week. He is close!" said Gambo in a post on Twitter/X.

There was some speculation the move could come soon after news broke today of the Cardinals reportedly planning to cut DE Myjai Sanders, which would clear a roster spot for either Murray or Budda Baker (who is now eligible to return from IR also).

AZ Central's Bob McManaman also echoed a similar sentiment:

"There’s a good chance the Arizona Cardinals decide to open the practice window for quarterback Kyler Murray and it could happen as soon as Wednesday," said McManaman.

Murray tore his ACL and meniscus in Week 14 of the 2022 regular season and has been working his way back from rehab since. Murray had surgery in early January and was reportedly running sprints by summer.

He remained on the PUP list to begin the regular season, which required him to miss the first four weeks of the season.

The Cardinals rolled into preseason action with Colt McCoy and Clayton Tune as their two options before eventually trading for Josh Dobbs after three weeks of neither Tune/McCoy impressing.

Dobbs' overall body of work has been considered up and down at best, as the Cardinals are just 1-5 through six weeks of football. Many believe Murray's presence in Arizona's offense under new coordinator Drew Petzing would see the team with vastly different results at this point in time.

More from McManaman:

"The clock could start ticking on Wednesday when the Cardinals resume practice in preparation for Sunday’s game at the Seahawks. If he is cleared to return, Murray likely will need at least a week and probably two weeks of practice time before he replaces Josh Dobbs as Arizona’s starting QB. ... Murray has been fully engaged in team meetings and has watched practices closely."

Whenever Murray is designated to return, he will have a 21-day window to practice before he must be added to the active roster or placed back on the PUP list.

Arizona is set to play the Seattle Seahawks in Week 7 before hosting the Baltimore Ravens in Week 8.
