Kliff Kingsbury Labeled OC Candidate for Bears
ARIZONA -- The Chicago Bears are currently in search of a new offensive coordinator, and a former Arizona Cardinals face could be the next leader of the offense.
After the Bears announced firings of essentially their entire offensive staff - which included OC Luke Getsy - Chicago moves forward with head coach Matt Eberflus and a vacancy to call plays in the Windy City.
That could potentially be Kliff Kingsbury.
The Athletic recently pieced together a list of coaching candidates to replace Getsy with Kingsbury making the cut:
"If the Bears are all in on Caleb Williams, then hiring Kingsbury would make sense. His experience with Williams could prove to be invaluable," wrote Adam Jahns.
"Kingsbury’s NFL experience matters, too. He was fired by the Arizona Cardinals after four seasons as their head coach. But quarterback Kyler Murray was named to two Pro Bowls under his watch.
"During the 2021 season, which was Murray’s third in the NFL, he ranked second in completion percentage, seventh in QBR, eighth in passer rating and passing yards per game and 11th in adjusted net yards per attempt. The Cardinals were 11-6 that season."
This isn't the first time Kingsbury has been included in talks for an NFL opportunity. Weeks ago, NFL insider Jay Glazer mentioned Kingsbury, Jedd Fisch and Chip Kelly as potential college coaches that will see OC opportunities this coming offseason.
Within the college ranks, Kingsbury also was a rumored candidate to leave his current role as an offensive analyst/quarterbacks coach with USC and take the now closed opening at Houston.
Kingsbury has worked with quarterbacks such as Patrick Mahomes, Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray and now Caleb Williams - who Chicago could draft. The Bears could also choose to hang on to Justin Fields and bring Kingsbury's prior experience over to help Fields progress.
Kingsbury held a 28-37-1 record in the four years he spent in the desert (2019-22) before being fired.
