Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray won't be playing for at least the first four weeks of the season after he stayed on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list to begin the 2023 regular season.

Murray is still recovering from a torn ACL/meniscus suffered in Week 14 last season and his current timetable for return isn't exactly clear.

During the first quarter of the Cardinals' Week 1 meeting with the Washington Commanders, Fox sideline reporter Kristina Pink revealed she spoke with Murray before the game and said Murray was tight-lipped about his recovery, though he was confident he was progressing.

"I feel like I'm coming along and I'm on the right track" Murray said to her. Pink also stated Murray believed it was important to travel with the team for their season opener.

Josh Dobbs was named the starter to begin the year until Murray returns with Clayton Tune behind him. Arizona parted ways with Colt McCoy at the end of the preseason.

Murray has been rehabbing at the team's facility throughout the offseason, which has impressed coaches and teammates such as left tackle D.J. Humphries.

"I got to see him all summer - training, lifting, running, doing none of the fun stuff. For me, it put me in a different view of him because you get to see someone grind through something really hard and that was big for me. Watching him do that this summer was really impressive, because you don't think that's the characteristic of a quarterback, to grind through stuff and to work like that when it comes to something like that. When it comes to pain and dealing with something that is so traumatic as an ACL injury, the progress that I watched him make this summer being able to be there while I was doing my rehab also, it's been impressive."

Murray was named one of six captains for the Cardinals this season, something he earned according to head coach Jonathan Gannon.

"He's our franchise quarterback and everything that I want for our captains to be, he demonstrates it."

Murray will be eligible to return beginning in Week 5, but it's believed a more realistic timeline for return will be Week 7/8 considering he'll need some time in practice before hitting the field.
