Cardinals Release D.J. Humphries
ARIZONA -- After months of speculation, the Arizona Cardinals are releasing LT D.J. Humphries, the team announced today.
"The Arizona Cardinals Football Club today announced that the team has released offensive lineman D.J. Humphries," read the official press release.
"Humphries started all 98 games he appeared in with the Cardinals after being drafted by Arizona in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft. He was a four-time team captain and was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2021."
Humphries is 30 years of age and had two years left on his contract after suffering an ACL tear at the end of 2023.
The Cardinals would have saved $9 million against the cap if Humphries was a pre June 1 cut, though Arizona Sports' John Gambadoro is reporting Humphries will be a post June 1 cut, which will see the Cardinals save $15.9 million according to Over The Cap.
As of now, Kelvin Beachum is expected to fill that void at left tackle unless the team signs a prominent starter in free agency or takes one early in the 2024 NFL Draft - where they have six picks in the first three rounds.
Recently, Humphries appeared on Justin Pugh's podcast and gave a positive update on his knee rehab.
“Everything was great with the knee. Swelling is way down. Moving good, past 90 degree flexion & got my extension back. We’re rolling man. Two more weeks I’ll be off these damn crutches, I’m so excited," he said.
The Cardinals re-signed left guards Trystan Colon and Elijah Wilkinson today.
