Cardinals Slammed for Kyler Murray Tweet
ARIZONA -- The Arizona Cardinals have a history of tweeting about quarterbacks.
Flash back to a few years ago, where the famous "Josh is our guy" quote from Kliff Kingsbury hit the internet and lives forever in infamy:
Of course - if you recall- Josh Rosen indeed was not their guy, as the organization took Kyler Murray with the No. 1 pick and haven't looked back.
The Cardinals saw more speculation on their quarterback this past season after Murray recovered from a torn ACL/meniscus. With Murray's massive extension kicking in and Arizona under a rebuild, there was some thought that the Cardinals would move on from Murray.
Jonathan Gannon and the Cardinals have been fairly vocal about Murray being their guy moving into 2024, but a certain tweet caught the attention of the internet:
Barstool - who are never short on opinions - offered this on the tweet:
"Sure, Kyler Murray isn't Josh Rosen, he's significantly better. But you can't do this just to take down rumors that you're moving on from Kyler. You can't do this when you're the Cardinals. Everyone is just bombarding them with the Josh Rosen tweet. Everyone is just making fun of them for being one of the most insignificant franchises in the NFL. Not like they have some great history they can scream about or anything like that," wrote Bobby Reagan.
"I get it, trust me, I'm cheering for a team that has Daniel f----- Jones running around back there. You want to move on from a quarterback, but you win some games that cost you a chance to do just that. Everyone is basically saying the same thing. There are 3 top tier quarterbacks in this draft and the Cardinals have the 4th pick. Maybe Gannon doesn't want Kyler anymore, who the f--- knows. But the lesson as always is you can't tweet out something like this right before the combine when you have that Josh Rosen tweet sitting right there."
Draftkings offered the same take:
"Five years ago the Cardinals held the No. 1 pick in the draft and rumors were swirling whether they were going to pull the plug on Rosen after one year. The Cardinals had the option to select a QB with the No. 1 pick, or draft defense and let Rosen cook," wrote James Dator.
"We know what happened next. The Cardinals took Murray with the No. 1 pick and traded Rosen to the Miami Dolphins where he would continue to be mediocre. It was absolutely the correct decision by the Cardinals, it’s just wild to see them trying to run back the same thing with this cursed tweet.
"As it stood there weren’t really many people who thought Arizona would take a QB at No. 4 in the draft. Now? Man, it feels like they might be getting ready for the same move again."
There's plenty others slamming the tweet/post/whatever the cool kids call it.
In the opinion of Gannon - the guy who actually coaches Murray - he's sticking around:
"I think that he can hit another level. I know our team can. I know the offense can. I hate to say it, but he’s in there working out today. It’s like, ‘Dude, just go home man. Take a break.’ But he doesn’t want to hear that," said Gannon at his end-of-season press conference.
"He’s on a little different process than the other guys coming off his injury, but with that guy playing quarterback for us, I know we can win every game.”
