Zach Ertz in Good Spirits After Surgery
It's been a tough time for the Arizona Cardinals, but few have had it tougher than the likes of tight end Zach Ertz.
Just days after celebrating his 32nd birthday, Ertz went down on the very first drive of Arizona's Week 10 victory over the Los Angeles Rams last Sunday with a knee injury.
ESPN's Adam Schefter initially reported Ertz was only supposed to miss the next few weeks, but the Cardinals believed his ACL was intact and would return to the team.
Later on in the week, NFL Media's Ian Rapoport broke news of Ertz being ruled out for the rest of the season.
Although head coach Kliff Kingsbury declined to go into detail on Ertz's injury, he did confirm he would have surgery earlier in the week.
Yesterday, Ertz posted on his Instagram page that he was in good spirits after a successful surgery.
"Thank you to everyone for the prayers over this past week. Surgery went great and now it's time to attack this recovery! The best is yet to come!!" said Ertz before citing bible verse 2 Corinthians 4: 8-10, which reads:
"We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. Through suffering, our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies."
Teammates such as J.J. Watt and Kyler Murray posted supportive messages beneath the post:
“I think that’s a huge deal just having him on the field, the confidence of having him on the field, what he means to the locker room, and what he means to the team," said Murray on losing his tight end.
"It’s unfortunate (it happened) on a freak type of thing. Obviously, you hate it for him because you know how much he loves the game, how much this means to him and the work he puts in but knowing Zach he’ll come back 100 percent ready to go.”
Rookie tight end Trey McBride will take his starting spot moving forward, although it'll be hard for anybody to fill Ertz's shoes.
Get well soon, Zach!
