Lamar Jackson Breaks Unique Playoff Milestone Set by Kurt Warner
ARIZONA -- Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson currently trails the Kansas City Chiefs at halftime in the AFC Championship Game, though regardless of today's outcome, he can hang his hat on doing something pretty cool and unique.
In the closing minutes of the second quarter and facing a second-and-five, Jackson attempted a pass that was batted up and away by a Chiefs defender. Jackson eventually tracked the ball, caught it before it could be intercepted, and rushed for a first down.
"That's one of the greatest plays I've ever seen!" said CBS' Tony Romo during the broadcast:
Jackson - according to Jay Morrison - became the first quarterback since Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner in 2008 to catch a pass to himself in a conference championship game.
AZCardinals.com's Darren Urban tracked the specific play down, which came on the last snap of the third quarter against the Philadelphia Eagles.
12 News' Cameron Cox dig up the replay and found the exact play:
"Probably for negative yards though!!!" responded Warner on Twitter/X when asked if he recalled the moment - though he actually picked up a decent chunk of yardage on the play despite not nearly being the athlete Jackson is.
Jackson hopes to join Warner in similar company by winning the conference championship.
At halftime, Jackson has completed five of 12 passes for 67 yards and one touchdown to go along with 27 rushing yards.
