Report: Cardinals GM Monti Ossenfort Met With DeAndre Hopkins
The Arizona Cardinals have quite the offseason ahead of them.
On top of finding a new head coach, the team has already hired new general manager Monti Ossenfort to navigate a stretch that will see Arizona make decisions on 30+ free agents before making the third overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft.
The cherry on top is what lies ahead with wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who was reportedly expected to be traded this offseason according to an earlier report from The Score's Jordan Schultz.
Hopkins and Ossenfort were supposed to meet last week but no news emerged - probably because they actually met today according to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer.
Hopkins reportedly wants a new deal - and as Breer points out, he has two years and $34.4 million left. His cap hit of just over $30 million for 2023 is second to only Tyreek Hill.
Schultz then reported that two preferred trade destinations for Hopkins were the Jacksonville Jaguars and Los Angeles Chargers, two teams with young quarterbacks who made the postseason last year (great weather, too).
Hopkins also reportedly has a no-trade clause in his contract, as he'll be able to dictate where he plays next season.
Kyler Murray benefits greatly from his presence, and so does the rest of the offense. Yet Arizona could be in for another down season as the team looks to regroup after a horrendous 4-13 campaign that saw Murray tear his ACL in Week 14.
The Cardinals may look to move on from Hopkins in an attempt to reload in assets, or Hopkins might not want to stick around for what could be more bad football.
Either way, change may come for both sides.
