Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray headlines a small crew of players that will begin training camp on the PUP list, the team announced.

"The Arizona Cardinals Football Club today announced that the team has placed tight end Zach Ertz (knee), quarterback Kyler Murray (knee) and linebacker BJ Ojulari (knee) on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list (PUP). In addition, cornerback Garrett Williams (knee) was placed on the Non-Football Injury list (NFI)."

It's been a long road of recovery since Murray initially tore his ACL back in Week 12 of the 2022 regular season. After waiting a few weeks for the swelling to go down, Murray had surgery in early January and has been on the mend since.

Murray has reportedly suffered no setbacks during his recovery, squatting heavy weight months ago and running sprints just a few weeks ago.

However, the Cardinals were always going to be cautious in their approach with returning Murray to the field (and despite Murray's own desire to return by Week 1 of the regular season).

With the designation, Murray will not be able to practice until taken off the PUP list. He can be removed from the list at any time.

Colt McCoy is considered the frontrunner to take Murray's place as QB1 in Arizona until the former No. 1 pick is able to return, though rookie Clayton Tune could make a big push for that title with an impressive camp/preseason.
