Tee Higgins Requests Trade; Cardinals Landing Spot?
ARIZONA -- The Arizona Cardinals have been linked with Cincinnati Bengals WR Tee Higgins through most of the offseason, and now that possibility could come to fruition.
Higgins is reportedly requesting a trade from the organization, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. This comes a week after the Bengals used the franchise tag on the Clemson product.
More from NBC Sports' Myles Simmons:
"Higgins, 25, has grown disappointed that Cincinnati has not discussed a long-term contract with him since March 2023. So even as Higgins had hoped to be around the Bengals for years to come, he is ready to move on.
"Just because Higgins has requested a trade doesn’t mean the Bengals will grant that request. But Cincinnati director of player personnel Duke Tobin did not rule out a trade when speaking to reporters at the scouting combine a couple of weeks ago."
Higgins - who recently turned 25 years old - is viewed as one of the better young receivers in the league after playing in a Bengals offense that featured prominent names such as Joe Burrow, Joe Mixon and Ja'Marr Chase.
In his first four seasons, Higgins has recorded 257 receptions for 3,684 yards with 24 scores.
The Cardinals are in search for a prominent wide receiver with the potential departure of Marquise Brown, though even if Hollywood returns to the desert, Arizona could still look to upgrade their room of pass-catchers.
The Cardinals certainly have the cap space and draft ammunition to pull the trigger on a trade if needed - the question is if general manager Monti Ossenfort believes the move makes sense as the organization enters year two of their rebuild.
