Chargers News: Bolts Sign Former Baltimore Ravens Fullback
The Los Angeles Chargers continue to add to their free agent acquisitions, as the team announced the signing of former full back and tight end, Ben Mason. Field Yates announced the signing via X.
Mason was initially signed by the Ravens in fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. After spending time with the team during training camp and preseason, he was waived on August 31, 2021. From there, he would spend time on the practice squad of the Patriots, Bears, and a return to the Ravens.
Mason has a lot of familiarity with head coach John Harbaugh, as he played for Michigan from 2017 to 2020. It is highly likely that Harbaugh was a key factor in the team signing Mason.
The idea for the Chargers is create a physical and tough run attack, and they will do so with Gus Edwards on the team. Adding a true fullback like Mason could also help the team set those design runs up, or simply to have Mason barrel forward for a couple of yards.
While Mason has not yet made the 53 man roster for any team, he could still have a shot to do so with the tutelage of his former head coach.
