Chargers News: Austin Ekeler Shares Encouraging News About His Ankle Injury
Injured star Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler provided an exciting update about the status of his banged-up ankle, with the Dallas Cowboys -- and an opportunity to move above .500 for the first time all year -- on deck for this coming Monday.
Ekeler, a frequent and devout gamer, was in the midst of Twitch livestream on Tuesday when he saw fans chatting him inquiries about his health.
“Here's the update with the ankle: It's bye week, so we have a lot of time to rest up, get this thing right," Ekeler said. "I know mostly for me, my mental drain of not being on the field sucks. It sucks so much. So the time's coming. We have a long time between now and Monday night football versus the Cowboys, so expecting to be back by then for sure,” Ekeler said.
A return for the 5'10", 200-pound Ekeler would be a pretty huge deal for the Bolts. He has been shelved for three of the Chargers' four games thus far this season with a high ankle sprain.
The 28-year-old out of Colorado was one of the most prolific backs in football last season, when he rushed for 204 carries and 915 total yards and 13 rushing touchdowns. He also compiled 107 receptions amidst 722 total receiving yards, plus five receiving TDs, while with the Bolts.
