Chargers News: LA's Run Defense Shows Significant Improvement After Four Weeks
Through the first four games of the seaosn, your Los Angeles Chargers look... okay. The Bolts' offense is playing tremendously, as the addition of offensive coordinator Kellen Moore looks like they struck gold.
The defense, on the other hand, has been... not so okay. The overall statistics don't pop off the page, they don't pop off any page, actually, as they are ranked 27th in opponent points allowed, 31st in opponent yards per game, and 29th in opponent yards per play.
However, when you look at their run defense, which struggled mightily a year ago, it's much improved. I know you may not be able to tell, but through four games, the run defense has stepped up big time and is on pace for a way better season in that category.
The Bolts currently rank 13th in rushing yards allowed per game at 104.3 and are 15th in rushing yards allowed per play at 4.13.

The only category they aren't that impressive in regarding the run defense is opponent rush touchdowns per game with 1.3, which is 22nd in the league.
There's no excuse for LA to be middle or bottom-tier in any defensive category. When you have the likes of Joey Bosa, Kahlil Mack, Eric Kendricks, and Sebastian Joseph-Day in the front seven, LA should be able to dominate their opponents.
LA is in a good spot at the moment; there are 13 more regular season games to climb up the top. Although the schedule is not in their favor, the Bolts cannot afford to let their opponents run the ball down their throats and make them multi-dimensional.
Let's hope they build off this and become run-stuffers by the time we know it.
