Chargers Fan Presents Insane Theory Surrounding Justin Herbert & Newly-Drafted QB

We here at Charger Report are skeptical.

Star Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert seems destined to stick around for a good long while, as the team just picked up the $29.5 million fifth year on his rookie scale salary, and seems intent on signing him to a lucrative long-term extension soon.

But as contract extension negotiations wind on, at least one Bolts appreciator believes Los Angeles might have another plan in mind.

A very conspiratorially-inclined Chargers fan named "27-0 Bolt Gang Hollis" has drawn some paranoid parallels between Justin Herbert and one of LA's prior franchise quarterbacks.

The selection of former Texas Christian University quarterback Max Duggan with the 239th pick in the seventh round of this year's draft inspired 27-0 Bolt Gang Hollis to wonder if it signals the beginning of the end in LA for Herbert, who's still recovering from shoulder surgery. As 27-0 Bolt Gang Hollis reminds us, former Bolts quarterback Drew Brees (ahead of his Super Bowl-winning New Orleans Saints days) underwent a shoulder surgery in 2004, and saw himself eventually phased out for eventual eight-time Pro Bowler Philip Rivers.

There are some key distinctions between Rivers and the ex-Horned Frog. For one, Rivers was selected with the fourth overall pick out of North Carolina State, and was far more of a blue chip prospect than Duggan. Duggan's ceiling, at least in the short-term, is currently to be the club's first backup option behind Herbert. If he shows any signs of promise beyond that, the Chargers can assess next steps. But Herbert, shoulder issues aside, has already been too good for LA to give up on him now.
