Chargers News: LA's Coaching Staff Not Concerned With Justin Herbert Missing Time

That's a relief, at least.

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert, a Pro Bowler in 2021, enjoyed another stellar season in 2022, before LA was ousted during Wildcard Weekend.

He's been on the mend from a January shoulder surgery, but the Bolts Offensive Coordinator Kellen Moore doesn't seem to be too concerned about him actually missing much training time, per Eric Smith of Chargers.com.

"Really, to be honest, most years I think there's always a handful of guys that are going through this process," Moore noted. "It just kind of happens a lot of times. OTAs [Organized Team Activities], a lot of guys are going through cleanups and a couple of different things to go through in an offseason. This happens."

Herbert, for his part, is doing his darnedest to be ready to roll.

"Make sure that I could be back for these OTAs and do everything I can in the building," Herbert said of his current focus and goal. "As far as it comes for throwing, I think that's something we're working toward, maybe starting some light throwing in the next couple of weeks," Herbert added. "But, definitely looking forward to the challenge."

"It's a pretty long process. Kind of expecting to be a five or six-month recovery and being on the lead shoulder, it's kind of tough throwing, golfing and doing all those things that are kind of explosive movements," Herbert revealed. "I've done everything I can to rehab to get good movement back in it, strengthen it back up... But I knew it wasn't going to be an easy journey back. Just doing everything I can to be back."

When asked about how continued contract negotiations for a probable lucrative extension were coming along, Herbert offered little in the way of a concrete answer.

"I think that's probably a better question for my agent and the front office," Herbert said. "I'm kind of left out of those negotiations and I think my job now, my focus, is to be the best quarterback that I could be and to rehab my shoulder."
