Chargers' Joey Bosa Out For Rest of Game vs Steelers After Suffering Injury
Los Angeles Chargers star pass rusher Joey Bosa has been ruled out for the remainder of the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers due to injury.
A season that was expected to be a resurgence year for the former first round selection out of Ohio State University has not gotten off to the start he has hoped for.
Throughout the first three weeks of the NFL season, Bosa’s name has been attached to the Chargers’ injury report after getting banged up early on this year. After rumblings that Bosa might not be a participant in week three, the veteran outside linebacker did suit this afternoon against the Steelers.
To begin the game Bosa looked like his normal self but would ultimately leave the game in the second quarter due to his hip. The Chargers will have some decisions to make next season regarding their franchise cornerstone on defense.
Unfortunately, the amount of injuries Bosa has suffered through the last couple of seasons will make the Chargers’ front office have to consider a future without the third overall selection from 2016. It is unfortunate that Bosa is dealing with another injury after he talked with reporters back in July about the optimism he had surrounding the 2024-25 NFL season.
When asked about his body and how he was feeling ahead of their first game in week 1, Bosa assured the media that he felt great.
"All of those things are good," said Bosa. "It's nice to be feeling better heading into Year 9 than you have maybe five or six years ago." "I'm grateful that I feel this way," Bosa later added. "A nice, ripe 28 [years old]. Not too old yet. I'm just excited."
Bosa is not old and when he is available to play he is still an impactful player on the defensive side of the football. Injuries are a part of football and there is a factor of luck that goes into getting through a season in the NFL.
The Chargers could elect to sit Bosa for a few weeks to allow his body to get healthy as there are still 14 games left in the regular season. Defensive coordinator Jesse Minter has changed the identity of this unit since being abysmal under the leadership of Brandon Staley.
Losing Bosa for a couple of games will be a hard pill to swallow for the Chargers, however, this group is so much better than it was previously, which should make fans more comfortable as they may have to go into games this year without the former Ohio State standout.
