The Los Angeles Chargers released the inactive list of players for Week 2.

The list includes safety Alohi Gilman, running back Kimani Vidal, cornerback Tarheeb Still, offensive lineman Jordan McFadden, wide receiver Brenden Rice, defensive tackle Justin Eboigbe, and quarterback Taylor Heinicke.

Gilman won’t play against the Carolina Panthers. The safety didn’t practice the entire week because of an injury.

Gilman posted four tackles in the season opener, three of which were solo tackles. Although he didn't have the most notable performance in Week 1, he is poised to thrive in defensive coordinator Jesse Minter's scheme this season.

The safety earned his starting spot this season after emerging as a much-watch player of the defense. Gilman was projected to be a CBS breakout player for the 2024 season, but if he misses multiple games, it’ll be tough to have a consistent performance.

The Chargers elevated Tony Jefferson in Gilman’s absence. In the preseason, Jefferson was an absolute ballhawk against the Dallas Cowboys. His final stat line from the preseason matchup included 14 tackles, 11 solo tackles, two interceptions, a forced fumble, a sack, two passes defended and a quarterback hit.

Four notable rookies in Vidal, Still, Rice, and Eboigbe are all inactive for the second consecutive week. Rice won't make his NFL debut on Sunday. He made significant progress throughout camp and made several splash plays, however, it seems he wasn't able to cement himself as a complementary piece of the offense just yet.

The former Trojan is the son of Hall of Famer Jerry Rice, but it seems like he hasn’t made much progress in securing a backup role in the offense.

Vidal was projected to handle a few of the third-down duties for the Chargers as he beat out Isaiah Spiller for a roster spot in Los Angeles, but he won’t be doing so in Week 2.

Henicke is listed as the emergency quarterback behind Justin Herbert and Easton Stick. The backup quarterback was acquired in a trade with the Atlanta Falcons at the end of August.

Heinicke is a veteran quarterback who has played in 38 games and started 29 of those contests. He's thrown for 6,635 career yards with 39 touchdowns and 28 interceptions.

Joey Bosa, Joshua Palmer, Ja’Sir Taylor, Hassan Haskins are all active against the Panthers. All four players were listed as questionable on Friday’s injury report. The inactive list for Carolina included Chau Smith-Wade, Shemar Bartholomew, Mike Boone, Andrew Raym, Jarrett Kingston, and Messiah Swinson.
