Chargers News: Bolts Select Arguably Best Player in Draft in New PFF Mock
Amidst the uncertainty of potential draft day trades, the direction the Bolts choose to go in, and what the teams choosing above them decide to do, the guarantee is that the new regime is well-positioned to have their pick of a franchise cornerstone.
Tackle Joe Alt, receivers Malik Nabers and Marvin Harrison Jr., and tight end Brock Bowers are all candidates to don the powder blue and gold next season, with Pro Football Focus' recent mock draft projecting the Bolts select Harrison Jr.
"MHJ" is arguably the best player in the draft, as the former Biletnikoff Award winner is an elite combination of size, hands, route running, and speed. The son of first-ballot Hall-of-Famer Marvin Harrison, the Ohio State product will look to join the group of elite OSU receivers in the NFL, a distinction held by the likes of Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson, Terry McLaurin, and pre-injury Michael Thomas.
For the Bolts, he fills a massive void left by Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. Being younger and carrying true top-tier receiver upside, he and Justin Herbert would presumably become one of the league's premier QB-WR duos for years to come.
"In all seriousness, this one doesn’t need too much explaining. I imagine Marvin Harrison Jr. is No. 1 on the Chargers’ big board. If he makes it to No. 5, I have a hard time believing they will trade this pick, even with one of the big four quarterback prospects still on the board. If anything, they would trade one spot back with the New York Giants so they can draft a quarterback while the Chargers can still get Harrison, but that might also be risky since the Giants need a wide receiver, too."
Assuming everything goes to plan for the Bolts, MHJ should be available, locking in a potential all-time great QB-WR combination. If he's off the board, LSU WR Malik Nabers should still be there, leaving them with an elite insurance option.
