In this story:

Los Angeles Chargers star running back Austin Ekeler found himself at the center of the NFL world when he requested a trade from the Bolts.

Ekeler and the Chargers have had ongoing conversations regarding his requests and are trying to find ways to make it work. At the moment, there are no real rumblings of him getting traded anytime soon, but that could change as we get deeper into the off-season. For Charger fans' sake, let's hope that doesn't happen.

The 27-year-old answered questions on his Instagram story yesterday, and a fan asked, "Is there a team you would love to play for?"

Austin answered the question not with a team but with a clear message to the Chargers organization and possibly other NFL teams.

The clear message in his answer was he wants to be somewhere he's wanted, and he wants to be there for a long time. The running back has been with the Bolts for six seasons and started coming onto this own in 2019. Last season was Ekeler's best individual season; he had a total of 1,637 yards in both the ground and air, 18 total touchdowns, and averaged 4.5 rushing yards per carry.

However, his contract is now where he wants it to be. As a matter of fact, he feels he's overplaying his contract, and the numbers show that. Austin is currently under a 4-year $24.5 million contract and will make a base salary of $6.25 million in 2023 and will be an unrestricted free agent in 2024. However, his total guarantees are only $15 million. Whether it's with LA or not, Ekeler deserves the money he's asking for, and hopefully, it is with LA.

He'll make this offense much more explosive and provide depth throughout every position. The man deserves his money; who will give it to him?
