Brandon Staley’s Defense Saves His Job For Second Straight Week as Chargers Escape Raiders With Rookie QB
Just when it seemed like the Chargers might have a drama-free week, think again. The Chargers did manage to survive and improve to 2-2, but not without some heart-stopping moments, largely thanks to head coach Brandon Staley.
With less than four minutes left on the clock and a seven-point lead, Staley once again decided to go for it on their own 34-yard line. The offense failed to convert, giving the Raiders only 34 yards to tie the game.
As they marched down the field, Raiders rookie QB Aidan O'Connell threw an interception to Asante Samuel, saving the day for LA.
While the Chargers secured the win, Staley's questionable decisions once again put unnecessary pressure on the defense. He's been pushing the envelope with these risky moves, and it's only a matter of time before it backfires. If Staley continues down this path, changes might be in order, as he can't keep tempting fate like this.
