Chargers Coach Expects His Linebackers to Dominate Every Play

The Los Angeles Chargers are gearing up for what promises to be an exceptional 2023 season, and they are well aware that their defense has a ton to do with it. Last season, the team struggled in several defensive categories, ranking among the bottom of the league. However, the Chargers are determined to reverse their fortunes this year, and it all starts on the defensive side of the ball.

Defense wins championships, and all facets of the group are important, including the linebacker position led by Giff Smith. In a recent interview with Chargers insider Eric Smith, Coach Smith expressed his high expectations for his linebackers and how he expects them to dominate every play. 

"I think the mentality of our group is dominating every play. I don't want what we call "ride the rollercoaster". Can't be up and down right there, we want to steadily gain right there. When we're put in run or pass with one-on-one block, we should dominate. That's non-negotiable in there,"

Their performance will play a pivotal role in the team's overall success as they try to become one of the best defenses in the league. 

The Chargers acquired Eric Kendricks via free agency to bolster their linebacking corps. Kendricks is a seasoned vet who is an All-pro talent and will look to lead the charge in LA. The 31-year-old is seen as the backbone of this defensive unit, and much will be expected from him and his fellow linebackers.

Coach Smith has been with the team since 2016, but it will be his second as the outside linebackers coach. The Chargers organization and fans alike are eagerly looking forward to witnessing the transformation of their defense.
