Chargers Could Make Run At Recently Released Veteran Center In Free Agency
Your Los Angeles Chargers have a huge offseason ahead of them.
This offseason will tell us much about where the team wants to go and how much they're willing to turn things around as soon as possible.
Many will be watching head coach Jim Harbaugh and general manager Joe Hortiz and how they handle this offseason. It will be underway soon enough, and many players have been linked to the Bolts already. One player, who is expected to be released, could be a prime candidate to do Powder Blue.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Carolina Panthers are expected to release center Bradley Bozeman. The Chargers are one team that could pursue Bozeman this offseason.
The 29-year-old was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Who was responsible for drafting the center, you may ask? Hortiz.
Hortiz spent more than two decades in the Baltimore front office, and Bozeman spent the first four seasons of his career there from 2018-2021.
Bozeman played in 1148 snaps, third in his position, committed only five penalties, tied for 13th, and allowed only eight sacks, first in his position. Considering he played for the worst team in the league last season, these numbers are quite impressive. According to PFF, he received an overall grade of 62.2, a pass-blocking grade of 48.9, and a run-blocking grade of 67.5.
The run blocking is his strong suit, and it could be a perfect fit, considering how much offensive coordinator Greg Roman wants to run the ball.
The Bolts' center position is still unknown. Will it be Corey Linsley, a rookie, or will the Bolts pick up one via free agency?
