The Los Angeles Chargers are set to make some noise as a perennial team in the AFC, and their franchise QB Justin Herbert is the main root of that. Herbert will go into his fourth year in the league and prove why he should be mentioned as one of the top quarterbacks in the league.

Every QB, including the great ones, needs a backup just in case something goes down, and the Chargers took care of that need in the 2023 NFL Draft. LA drafted TCU quarterback Max Duggan, who made a name for himself during his time at TCU, where he led his college football team to their most successful season in school history. As the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy, Duggan proved to be a formidable player on the field.

Now even though his time in college was successful, barring injury, the rookie QB won't see the field. So, that begs the question, what will his role look like this season? Chargers insider Lindsey Thiry explained what this season may look like for Duggan.

Duggan will compete with Easton Stick to back up Herbert. Stick returns for a fifth season after he re-signed on a one-year, $1.8 million contract. But with a massive payday looming for Herbert, Duggan could prove to be a less expensive No. 2 option if he proves capable of the job. "He has some skills to work with and give him a chance to come in and compete," general manager Tom Telesco said. "If you've seen him play through the course of his career, he just has that grittiness and toughness that's just hard to find."

During his college career, Duggan showcased his talent and potential. His performances on the field were impressive, and he played a significant role in elevating TCU's football program.

However, his opportunity isn't there with this team, and the adjustment to the NFL is a huge leap to make. Nonetheless, the Chargers' decision to secure him as the backup quarterback speaks to their belief in his abilities and his potential for growth in the professional league.

With his college football achievements and the Chargers' plans for him, Duggan has the opportunity to continue honing his skills and making a positive impact in the NFL.
