Chargers Expert Pinpoints This LA Rookie to Have Most to Prove
Quentin Johnston is entering one of the most ideal roles that a WR rookie could ask for. He will be joining a Los Angeles Chargers squad that people views as a solid team overall but are not quite ready to take them seriously in a conference dominated by the Kansas City Chiefs.
And while the Bolts should be upset about that, they also know that this is their own doing. Certain factors were out of their control in 2022 such as numerous injuries to key players such as JC Jackson, Justin Herbert, and Donald Parham. However, at the very least, we should've seen them advance in the playoffs due to their comfortable 27-point lead over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
It was clear after their meltdown that they needed to invest more into their offensive depth and bringing in Johnston was a great move for this. He possesses height, speed, and is coming off of a final season at TCU where he recorded 1,069 yards with 60 receptions and six touchdowns.
While this was not the first-round draft pick that many fans were expecting, it still may end up being the best fit. Zay Flowers and Jordan Addison were other WR's that were still on the board at the time but LA wanted to go with Johnston who possessed more ideal physical traits.
LA fans made it clear as day that they were shocked at this selection.
Partially due to this and also just the pressure that comes with being a first-rounder, The Athletic's Daniel Popper slates Johnston as the Bolts' newest addition with the most to prove.
"How big of a role will Johnston carve out as a rookie? This will be a fascinating storyline to watch through OTAs and into training camp. Johnston has considerable upside as a yards-after-the-catch weapon. He is also a raw prospect who needs to develop as a route runner, and he will have at least three receivers ahead of him on the depth chart entering the summer in
Keenan Allen
,
Mike Williams
and
Joshua Palmer
. The Chargers and Moore should cater Johnston’s role to his YAC skillset in Year 1: slants, crossers, jet sweeps, anything to get the ball in his hands on the run."

We are beyond excited to see what he brings.
