Chargers GM Says Justin Herbert's Extension Is Different Than Other Star QB's

LA is not looking too closely at what anybody else has received.

The 2023 offseason is amazing for anybody that is a young quarterback with a load of potential. But when looking at other positions, specifically running backs, they are not super valued right now and NFL front offices have not been super eager to fork over big contracts to them.

The Los Angeles Chargers' Austin Ekeler has witnessed this firsthand as not only have the Bolts been unwilling to budge on their initial offer to him, but there have been no serious trade requests for him.

On the other hand, his teammate Justin Herbert is all but confirmed to break the bank with his upcoming extension with LA. GM Tom Telesco has already revealed that he believes the 25-year-old can lead them to a Super Bowl and he's going to pay him to do so.

We must, of course, factor in all of the other star QB's that have gotten paid recently and will get paid soon.

However, it's looking like Telesco is taking a different approach compared to the rest of these franchises and isn't banking too hard on the rest of the market.

"Any time there is a contract signed at that position it's going to come up in conversation," Telesco said. "I wouldn't say there is any quarterback contract out there that is a blueprint -- I wouldn't say that at all. But like anything else, there'll be contracts that'll be talked about, and we'll cherry-pick some things out of that contract we like. The agent will cherry-pick some things out of that contract that he likes. But in the end, we'll get to a compromise at some point. Something that works for everybody."

Herbert himself has came out and said that he is leaving the contract matters up to his agent and financial team. He is nursing his shoulder back to health after offseason surgery and only has a healthy return to the field on his mind currently.
