Chargers, Gus Edwards Agree to 2-Year Deal
The Los Angeles Chargers have made their first free agent signing of the season, landing former Baltimore Ravens running back Gus Edwards. The Bolts have had a need at the running back position and now they bring in someone familiar with new coordinator Greg Roman.
Edwards now heads from former Ravens head coach John Harbaugh to Jim Harbaugh with the Chargers. He is a very good depth piece for the Bolts and is someone that they can potentially build around.
It remains to be seen if the Bolts will bring back running back Austin Ekeler after this signing, but Edwards has been used to playing in a committee. He played in 17 games last season with Baltimore, posting 810 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns.
He is also a decent pass catcher out of the backfield, putting up 12 catches for 180 yards last season. Edwards may see more action like this with the Bolts, as Harbaugh loves to utilize his running backs in more versatile manners.
This is a good signing for the Chargers and one to help them get started in building out their roster. Edwards working with Roman already in Baltimore gives him a leg up on knowing the offensive system, which should work to their advantage,
