Chargers HC Believes Quentin Johnston Established Himself in Most Important College Games
The Chargers selected wide receiver Quentin Johnston from TCU with their first-round pick. Johnston was the second receiver to come off the board, and even though Charger fans were surprised by the move, LA was a big fan of his game.
Quentin was among the best receivers in the NCAA in 2022 and helped lead the Horned Frogs to their best season in school history. Chargers head coach Brandon Staley really loved what he saw from Johnston in the draft process, especially in big-time games he participated in last college football season.
"I thought, in the 3 biggest games of the season — against Kansas State, Michigan, and Georgia — I thought that he was the best player on the field. And that's saying a lot because there were a couple of Round 1 picks from among those teams."
TCU finished with a 13-2 record and played in the Big 12 Championship Game, College Football Platoff Semi-Final game, and the National Championship Game. In those three games, he combined for 11 receptions, 305 yards, and one touchdown. TCU lost two of the three games, but there was no questioning Quentin's skills.
Overall, Johnston racked up 60 receptions for over 1,000 yards, averaged 17.8 yards per reception, and racked up six touchdowns. He is sure to make a huge impact for the Chargers behind the duo of Mike Williams and Keenan Allen. The 21-year-old is already accustomed to playing in big games, let's hope the NFL isn't too much for him.
