Chargers Injury Report: Bolts Open 21-Day Practice Window For Joey Bosa
There is some good news and bad news regarding Joey Bosa for the Los Angeles Chargers this week. The good news is the team officially announced they have activated Bosa's 21-day practice window. That means he can be eligible to return anytime within those 21 days.
The bad news is that Bosa will not be returning this Saturday when the team is set to take on the Buffalo Bills.
Bosa initially injured his foot back on Week 11 and has since been on IR. Though we imagine he will be excited to get back on the field, the situation warrants a much deeper question.
Should the Chargers even allow Bosa back on the field this season?
Bosa is one of the most dynamic playmakers in the NFL, and his playstyle coupled with Khalil Mack makes the Chargers defense quite scary. The issue is that the Bolts are not headed to the playoffs this season, so there is no sense in bringing him back.
We imagine Bosa is chomping at the bit to get let back on the field with his teammates, but the Chargers are only playing for pride right now.
They can act as season ruiners for the Bills this Saturday, who are vying for a playoff spot and the potential to capture another AFC East title. Still, the Chargers can severely impact that by upsetting the Bills.
Having Bosa on the field would make this a much easier task, but the team is allowing him another week to fully heal.
We think Bosa should be deactivated for the rest of the season, as he could easily reaggravate his foot injury, or suffer something much worse. Bosa is one of the anchors on the defense, and he will need to be at his best next season to help the Chargers rebound.
At least for now, he will not be permitted to play. Minds can change within a week, but at least the Chargers are keeping off the field for another game.
