As if injuries could not get worse for Pro Bowl Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert appears to have a finger injury and is currently wearing a splint.

While there is concern about the finger, Chargers head coach Brandon Staley informed the media that Herbert is only wearing the splint for extra protection.

"Just looking for some extra protection, that's all. On one of those scrambles, I think that he just felt like some extra protection would be more comfortable for him."

This season, the Chargers have been plagued with the injury bug as most recently, former 2016 defensive Rookie of the year and four-time Pro Bowl edge rusher Joey Bosa has joined the long list of names on the Chargers injured reserved list.

Losing Herbert would be the nail in the coffin for the Charges this year as they have a record of 4-6 right now and have a huge game at home against the Baltimore Ravens on the schedule this Sunday night.

This season, Herbert has been one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL and is even outperforming reigning league MVP and Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes.

Right now, Herbert has a better QBR and fewer interceptions than Mahomes while having the same amount of touchdowns thrown and has only thrown for 10 less yards than him.

Unfortunately for Herbert, despite the success he has had, his team has struggled to put games away as their defense continues to let opponents hang around late in games.

If the Chargers had a better record, Herbert would certainly be a name considered for league MVP.
