Chargers News: A Closer Look At Interim GM JoJo Wooden
Your Los Angeles Chargers have had a "new" general manager for almost two weeks now, and he goes by the name of JoJo Wooden. The Chargers cut ties with general manager Tom Telesco and head coach Brandon Staley after a humiliating 63-21 loss to their division rival Las Vegas Raiders in primetime in Week 15.
Wooden serves as the interim general manager, and there's a chance LA could give him the gig, but they could also find a new one this off-season. Nonetheless, he's the man at the helm at the moment, and here's a little bit about him that you might not have known — special thanks to Chargers junior writer Omar Navarro of Chargers.com.
Wooden has been with the Bolts since 2013, serving as the director of Player Personnel, overseeing the team's college and pro scouting departments. Before joining the Bolts, JoJo spent 16 seasons with the New York Jets, starting in 1997 as a pro personnel assistant. After that, he became a pro scout two seasons later. In his final six seasons with the Jets, he held the position of Assistant Director of Player Personnel.
The interim GM not only served in a front office role, but he played at the collegiate level. Wooden was an outside linebacker at Syracuse from 1989-1992. He played 46 games during his career with 21 starts. He helped reach bowl games in all of his seasons and graduated with a degree in sociology.
Wooden clearly has the experience to be the man for the Bolts, but only time will tell, and they'll need to name a new one pretty soon.
