Chargers News: Austin Ekeler Explains Why He Tries To Ignore Bolts Fans

The only ones who matter are those on the field.

Chargers running back Austin Ekeler made headlines for all the wrong reasons this week through some interesting media comments.

Amidst an early season injury and the team's losing record, LA's most potent offensive weapon told reporters that he had no choice but to listen to his controversial head coach Brandon Staley.

Insisting that his words were taken out of context, Ekeler blamed fans for misinterpreting his true message.

In fact, Ekeler didn't seem too shy to share his true opinions about the LA faithful in another odd set of comments from the veteran. He told Jeff Miller of The LA Times why he ignores fans.

“Of course we want to win. That’s all that ultimately matters. But we don’t get emotional in the result,” Ekeler said. “If it’s a win or a loss, guess what? We still have to move forward because there’s a season to play through. We can’t be super emotional and turn this into a reality TV show about our feelings. As fans, you can be pissed off and calling your buddies and saying, ‘Did you see that garbage?!’“We’re not doing that. We’re coming in here and getting it dialed in and trying to win the next game. I really appreciate the passionate fans. They’re what has made this game. But we really have to tune that all out.”

Ekeler's sentiment is understandable given that fans aren't the ones in pads every week but their opinions and takes on the team matter a significant amount.

Those in the stands might not have the smarts to determine the ins and outs of coverage like Justin Herbert but even the simplest of supporters could figure out that playing zone against Travis Kelce is a bad idea.

It's choices like these that have made the Chargers the most disappointing franchise in the NFL over the past decade and Ekeler's comments will only fuel the dwindling fanbase's fire.
