Chargers News: Bolts Could Make a Run at 3-Time Pro-Bowl WR in Free Agency
The Los Angeles Chargers have many holes to fill on their roster, with potentially none being bigger than the wide receiver position. The team traded away star Keenan Allen to the Chicago Bears and released Mike Williams to save money against the salary cap.
Now, the team doesn't have a true number-one receiver to work around, but they are expected to draft one. The Chargers hold the fifth overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, and will now need to rebuild their wide receiver room.
However, the team will also look to add in free agency. With multiple young players on the roster and a new rookie likely coming in, the Bolts need a more veteran piece to build around as well.
This could come in the form of a three-time Pro Bowl receiver, who was just designated as a Post-June 1 release. That would be Odell Beckham Jr., who could provide incredible leadership to the young players, as well as give the Chargers a solid weapon to use in the passing game.
Beckham Jr. is coming off a nice year with the Baltimore Ravens, appearing in 14 games. He caught 35 passes for 565 yards and three scores while working with MVP Lamar Jackson.
If you put Beckham Jr. into a system with Chargers star quarterback Justin Herbert, great things could happen. Even at age 31, Beckham Jr. has shown the ability to be a productive member of a team.
He would bring a winning culture to the table and could help start the new era of Bolts football. While he may not be the same player that he once was, Beckham Jr. may be exactly what the Bolts need at this point. Even if they could net him for one or two years, he could serve as a great stop-gap player to run with.
