The Los Angeles Chargers are about to enter an extremely important season for the growth of their team. After reaching the playoffs last year, the team is looking to improve on that success and potentially go even further.

LA wants no part of going backward in their progression, so it's imperative that they see improvement on the football field this year.

They are led by star quarterback Justin Herbert, and they should have a high-powered offense once again. But it's the defense that will likely determine just how good this team can be.

Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report believes that the Chargers' defensive line is the most important group from the roster and that they will determine how the 2023 season goes.

“The pass rush wasn't all that great either. It was 21st in pressure percentage, and Derwin James and Drue Tranquill accounted for nearly a quarter of the team's sacks. The problem is that the Chargers didn't do much to solve the issue from a personnel standpoint. They made no major signings on the defensive line, so second-round pick Tuli Tuipulotu is their best hope at getting better through addition.”

Per Bleacher Report

LA has two top pass rushers, Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack, on the team. Both players can dominate any given game, but both have also dealt with injuries over their careers.

The team will need them to stay healthy if they want to make any noise in the AFC this season. They must create the potent one-two punch that the Bolts intended when they put them together.

“Getting a healthy and bulked-up Joey Bosa could be transformative enough, but the Chargers' hopes of breaking through in 2023 are on the shoulders of this defensive front.”

Per Bleacher Report

2023 will be a make-or-break year for the Chargers because changes will likely be made if they don't succeed. Head coach Brandon Staley is on the hot seat entering the season, so he could be gone if they don't meet their expectations.

This team has all the tools needed to make a run; they just need to go out and execute their game plan to their fullest extent.
