Chargers News: Bolts Finish Interview With Baltimore Ravens DC
Your Los Angeles Chargers are making their rounds as they search for their next permanent head coach. This weekend, they interviewed San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Steven Wilks and Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken.
Late Saturday, they completed another one, this time with Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald.
Macdonald is only 36, but his resume dates back to 2008, when he started as a Graduate Assistant with Cedar Shalos High School in Athens, Georgia. He worked his way up from the high school ranks to the college ranks, to the NFL, back to college, and now back to the NFL.
His specialty is on defense, and he showed that all season long with the Ravens. Macdonald led the Ravens to the sixth-best total defense, allowing 301.4 yards per game. On top of that, the Ravens D was first in points allowed, second in yards per play allowed, sixth in pass yards per game allowed, and third in sack percentage.
The Ravens showed up and showed out all season on the defensive side of the ball and Macdonald was a massive part of that. He's spent the last two seasons at the helm of the Baltimore defense, and now he has a chance to be the guy at the helm for the Bolts.
Oh, and he spent one season as the defensive coordinator for the Michigan Wolverines in 2021. I thought I'd throw that in there for the fun of it to give you guys an idea of what type of coach they're looking for.
