Somehow, it's become a lost season.

Yet again, the Chargers have found a way to lose an important game. There's really nothing more that can be said about this team, their tendencies, Brandon Staley, Tom Telesco, the defense, etc. that hasn't already been covered.

This is a nightmare and a team that needs to be rebuilt from the ground up, excluding Justin Herbert, Rashawn Slater, Keenan Allen, Tuli Tuipulotu, and potentially another defensive player.

A 12% chance at making the playoffs doesn't sound as low as you'd think given the way the season has gone, as the losers of 3 straight still have an outside chance of playing in mid-January if they can pull off a stretch of games similar to how they started the 2021 season for example, where they were 4-1 with several impressive wins.

Unfortunately, the schedule only features one game to enter with confidence, and that's next week against New England. The Patriots are shamelessly tanking and just lost to the New York Giants (who are also tanking).

After that, however, they face off against a surging Denver team that has looked terrific despite a slow start, currently being winners of 5 straight. And, in the game prior to that streak beginning, they held the Chiefs to just 19 points.

This will be followed by a matchup against the Raiders on the road, prior to hosting the Buffalo Bills who've been significantly better offensively since the firing of coordinator Ken Dorsey. They took the 10-1 Eagles to overtime, scoring 34 points against a top defense.

After another matchup against Denver (this time on the road), they'll host Kansas City in Week 18. The Bolts' only hope not to have their season end on a loss would be for Kansas City to rest their starters, which is plausible if they have a top seed secured.

This season is lost, but there's an outside chance something unbelievable will happen, so it's worth staying intrigued for a little bit longer.
