Free agent wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins is still searching for a new home, but it's starting to look like it won't be with the Los Angeles Chargers. As of June 21 on DraftKings bet board, the Chargers weren't even listed in the top 16 of teams to land Hopkins.

There had been speculation that the Chargers may look at Hopkins to help bolster their wide receiving room, and Hopkins added fuel to the fire when he spoke about his want to catch passes from LA quarterback Justin Herbert. Herbert heard the news and was just thankful for a player like Hopkins to speak so highly of him.

However, the Chargers don't need Hopkins, and they never did. It would have been more of a luxury signing for the team, if anything.

Now would Chargers head coach Brandon Staley welcome Hopkins? Sure, any coach would. But the team has plenty of talent at the position, and Hopkins could take targets away from other key players.

Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, Joshua Palmer, and Quentin Johnson headline the receiving core, and that is a ton of talent in the room. Herbert should have no shortage of weapons to throw the ball to this season as the Chargers look to vastly improve their offense from a season ago.

LA will be competing for another playoff spot this season, and hopefully more than that. It's a make-or-break year in LA for the Chargers, and without a long playoff run, the team could look very different next season at all levels.
