Chargers News: Bolts Receive Average Draft Grade
The final results from the 2023 NFL Draft were quite interesting to say the least. With way more running backs getting taken in the first round than initially expected along with certain top QB's falling as the other rounds went on, we were hit with a number of surprises.
Your Los Angeles Chargers, on the other hand, pretty much stuck to the script and even though majority of fans were not granted their pipe dream of Bijan Robinson, they addressed some major needs within the franchise.
A speedy receiver was among the top of the wishlist and Quentin Johnston was able to fill that.
This is what NFL Draft experts had to say about Johnston's fit with LA.
"You end up looking at the skill set that he does have, which is size, straight line speed, the ability to catch a ball, turn upfield, and make explosive plays happen, and that's valuable. Even if he never figures out how to be a good player at the catch point or how to go up and moss people and take advantage of the fact that he's bigger and longer than most of the guys he's going up against."

On top of Johnston, the Chargers were able to bring in Tuli Tuipulotu, Daiyan Henley, and Darius Davis among other names. Even though their TE issue was not addressed, pretty much everything else was covered.
Their offense and defense have both improved and they got much younger. However, Bleacher Report experts are not completely sold on their selections.
"The first-round selection of TCU wideout Quentin Johnston was a bit of a luxury pick for the Los Angeles Chargers—who already have Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. However, Johnston was the top-ranked receiver on the B/R board and immediately gives L.A. one of the top receiving corps in the league. This wasn't a bad draft class by any means, but it's worth wondering if adding two receivers, and one in the first round, was the right strategy for a team that ranked ninth in offensive yardage and 20th in yards allowed last season." Once the regular season rolls around, we'll see exactly how these rookies fare.
